    - Sequence of events :

    The qualifying stages will take place in different countries (Belgium, France, USA, Spain, Switzerland). Every country organizing a test will select from one to three candidates for the great finale in Belgium.

    Depending on the participation, the organizing country might take care of travel costs.

    The date of the finale will coincide with the festival RIC2012. For the qualifying stages, every contestant will be heard and the candidates who obtained 80% will be granted the second prize. The Honour Prize will be awarded for a 90%-mark.

    The first candidate of each category will get the chance to be selected for the great finale after the jury members’ consultation.

  • Rules


    1. The International Contest is intended for brass players of all nationalities.

    2. The contest comprises three categories: 12-14 years old // 15-17 years old // 18-23 years old (the ages mentioned here can’t be exceeded on the day of the finale)

    3 . The jury will be composed of educationalist musicians of international reputation.

    4. The decisions of the jury are irrevocable.

    5. RIC reserves the right to transmit on radio or TV the contest tests without remunerating the candidates. .

    6. The travel costs must be provided by the candidate except for certain costs that can be taken care of by some organizing countries in the frame of the participation in the Great Finale in Namur.

    7. RIC reserves the right to modify some terms of the rules in the interest of the contest.

    8. The contests comprises a qualifying and a final test in every category. All tests are open and free of charge for the public.

    9. All participants will receive a certificate.

    10. The candidates will send their application request per mail or via form addressed to the different organizing countries. The forms of the under-eighteen candidates need to be signed by the parents. Each candidate will add a photo to the registration form. The inscription is to be postmarked one month before the qualifying test of the country in question. The registration fees will amount to 50€ in Europe and 100€ in the United States, to be paid on the account of the country organizing the qualifying tests. (information to be found under “inscriptions”). The fees also need to be paid one month before the test. .

    11.Only the jury of the contest is competent to settle possible disputes. Its decisions are irrevocable and don’t have to be justified. The jury can possibly decide not to grant a prize in the one or the other category. If two candidates are placed equal, the voice of the jury’s president is dominating.

    12.Conditions for the accompaniment: the candidates are responsible for their accompaniment.

    13. Programmes: Category 12 to 14 years old: they can choose two pieces or to piece extracts lasting 5 minutes. Category 15-17 years old: they can choose two pieces or extracts of pieces, lasting in total not more than 10 minutes. One of the pieces will have to be interpreted by heart.
